The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot was launched in 2019 by Infinity Ward and Activision, and it significantly revived the beloved sub-franchise. With a brand-new framework, the reunion of fan-favorite characters, and a dedication to the original boots-on-the-ground gameplay, the new Call of Duty game launched with a bang.
There has been a lot of hype about the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game, but is it truly worth the hype? Let’s find out in our honest review.
Quick Overview
Source: Call of Duty
First off, Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer has excellent gunplay. The developers of Call of Duty have had years to refine the game to a razor's edge, and this year brings yet another round of minute changes. Each pistol has a distinct sense of weight and handling that varies from one gun to the next within each category.
Anybody who has played Call of Duty in recent years should be familiar with the weapon advancement and attachment system. Still, I want to draw attention to it because it's one of my favorite elements. You can have a total of 5 attachments to each of your weapons.
The Modern Warfare 2 campaign made a good first impression on us. It's a dramatic affair that leads you through a number of fast-paced set pieces one after the other and has the sensation of a squad doing what it does best.
We believe that Infinity Ward needs to fine-tune the intensity in a few areas, but it's not significant enough to ruin anything.
Campaign
The campaign of Modern Warfare 2 begins sometime after the events of the first game, with Task Force 141. You get a corny plot that manages to play things simply enough to get away with it. It offers you full of plot turns that don't hold up to careful scrutiny but let the action keep moving forward.
You can control a number of characters in that action, including the regulars like Gaz and Soap, and new members of the Mexican Special Forces with legends like Captain Price and Ghost.
Gunplay
Infinity Ward has put the brakes on commanders themselves as a contrast to Modern Warfare 2's lightning-fast ballistics and time-to-kill. It is by far the slowest CoD in recent years in terms of movement. In comparison to 15 years of tradition, the minimap no longer marks opponents as red dots once a shot is fired.
Traditionalists will argue that these changes undermine the series because they "reduce the skill gap" or promote unethical camping, but this is a false argument.
