Epic Games, which is known for its success with titles like Fortnite and its popular Epic Games Store, is now set to expand its free games program to mobile devices by the end of 2024.

This is in a bid to allow mobile gamers access to a variety of free content through the Epic Games Store, building on the company's well-established reputation of offering free games on PC.

Epic Games Free Mobile Games Program

For years, PC gamers have enjoyed Epic Games’ weekly drops of free games — from indie hits to AAA blockbusters. Now, Epic Games is bringing this same model to mobile platforms.

As confirmed by Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, Epic’s free games program will be coming to the mobile version, beginning in the fourth quarter of 2024, both Android and iOS users will be able to access a range of free games, making mobile gaming more accessible than ever before.

The Mobile Gaming Industry

The mobile gaming industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors in entertainment, with billions of users globally.

By introducing free mobile games, Epic Games is stepping into an already competitive market dominated by giants like Google Play and Apple’s App Store. However, Epic’s approach, which includes third-party titles and self-publishing tools for developers, is bound to give it an edge over others.

Developers will have more autonomy to publish games on the Epic Games platform without the need for direct involvement with the company, much like the system currently in place for PC.

Features and Benefits

Epic Games’ mobile store will also offer several features that improve the gaming experience. Social and party features, such as cross-platform play and in-game chat, will soon be available. These features are particularly appealing to players looking to connect with friends or play across multiple devices, whether on PC or mobile. One of the first third-party mobile games expected to launch is Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition, which will be available as part of the initial wave of games.

Moreover, the free games program will provide a consistent stream of content, similar to the offerings on the PC store. Gamers can expect weekly free games, a model that has proven extremely successful on other platforms.

As reported by a number of outlets, Epic Games has announced long-term plans that would bring more than fifty third-party games to the service by 2025, as well as introducing its famed free games plan as well.

Closing Note

For mobile gamers, this opportunity presents access to high-quality, free content. Although the expansion of Epic Games could disrupt the mobile gaming market, it also opens up new possibilities for developers, especially those who may have struggled to publish on other platforms due to restrictive policies or high costs.

As Epic Games continues to build its mobile store and introduce new features, it is likely to attract a growing audience of mobile gamers looking for diverse and high-quality experiences. Whether you are an Android or iOS user, Epic Games’ free mobile games program promises to be a game-changer for mobile gaming in the near future.
