Marvel is cooking something different with the Nova series which is set to be released under Disney+. If anything, this promises a new perspective to the way they execute their sci-fi genre.
With the idea coming from Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica II, we expect to see some unique blend of action, adventure and the space exploration theme common with the Star Trek franchise.
Who or What is Nova?
So what or who is Nova? Well, in the late 70s, a legendary marvel character was created by Marv Wolfman and John Buscema. This character was part of the Nova Corps of which Richard Rider was the original Nova. Since then, Nova has featured in comic books and different storylines, however, fleetingly. In these stories, we have seen Nova’s display of his powers and how he continually fought for justice.
With his iconic black and gold helmet and uniform, Nova became a beloved character in the Marvel Universe and a fan favorite. However, he hasn’t had any appearance on the big screen with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but they actually hinted that he would be introduced in Guardians of Galaxy. Well, that didn’t happen and we wonder if there might be some other opportunity now that he would be getting his own show on Disney+.
Influence of Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica
In a bid to make the Marvel’s Nova series a possibility, the Marvel team had to get some sort of inspiration to make it all work. According to Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum, Nova would be drawing inspiration from two sci-fi franchises that have the same theme. The two shows are Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica, and we should expect Nova to incorporate some of the same style of storytelling and complex characters.
Winderbaum also believes that they could add some sort of thought provoking themes and character driven storytelling to make it all come together. He believes that once these features are merged, that would then give them the chance to create a unique and much more exciting narrative which would stand out.
Development of the Nova Series
So when should we expect to get this new series, Nova? As it stands, there is no announced release date, as the show is currently in the works. However in a not so encouraging statement by Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum, he said that not every project in development makes it to screen.
Now, that’s not something exciting to hear about this anticipated Tv show, but we can only cross our fingers and hope for the best. On the flip side, the development team is quite excited about what they have been working on and we hope they get to share it with the world.
Also a sneak, we expect that the show will have ties with other MCU projects like the Guardians of Galaxy which seem to have the same theme about cosmic exploration.

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe desperate to give the world a new film just like the Avengers series, we might just see a masterclass. This would prompt them to come up with something beautiful with the TV show, Nova. However, we are still hopeful that the show would leave development and hit our screen. But until then, we can only hope and wonder what they are cooking up at Marvel.
