A renowned leaker recently tipped a definitive edition of Elden Ring to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 next year. Dark Souls Remastered dev Virtuos is reportedly behind the project set to hit the store shelves by late 2025.
According to the source, FromSoftware is likely not behind the new game version anticipated on Nintendo's unannounced console. Meanwhile, reports claim that Switch’s successor is expected to enjoy strong support from third-party devs.
Elden Ring (definitive edition) makes up the growing number of games linked to the Switch 2. Many more titles are expected to follow once the Japanese company officially unveils the console.
More Leaks on Elden Ring Definitive Edition
Renowned games leaker Nash Weedle is behind the latest rumor linking Elden Ring to the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Weedle made the claim via his Twitter handle.
According to reports, the new game version, dubbed a “definitive edition” would be bundled with the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. As reports of Virtuos studios being the game's dev become more widespread, the gaming community expects a top-level production that appeals to various player categories.
The Singapore-based studio boasts a long track record of porting games to Nintendo Switch. Other games in Virtuoso’s portfolio include BioShock: The Collection and Assassin's Creed Liberation Remastered. Virtuos is behind the only FromSoftware game on Nintendo's hybrid console: Dark Souls: Remastered. That gives some potential credibility to the rumors of Virtuos being behind the transfer of Elden Ring to Switch 2.
Meanwhile, Weedle thinks Elden Ring, one of 2024’s most anticipated games, could hit Switch 2 by the end of 2025. Supposing that's correct, the game could make a launch release for Nintendo's upcoming console.
Nintendo Switch 2 isn't expected to hit the stores before Q2 2025 at the earliest, with some sources indicating that Switch 2 may only reach consumers late next year. Reports say the console is yet to enter a mass production stage. Meanwhile, Nintendo is reportedly eager to launch Switch 2 en masse to avoid the shortages that plagued its predecessor, according to a Nikkei report earlier this year.
Per the facts, the company's production output is reportedly similar to its 2016 levels. Since Switch took approximately four months before launch, it might be safe to expect Switch 2 to spend over six months building up its inventory.
Closing Note
Rumors suggest the definitive version of Elden Ring to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 by late 2025. Nintendo is yet to make any official confirmations of the leaks following the Twitter leak from Nash Weedle, a renowned leaker.
