The eagerly awaited horror game “Slitterhead” will showcase its world gameplay premiere during Summer Game Fest on Friday, June 7th.
Crafted by Keiichiro Toyama, the creative force behind Silent Hill, and developed by Bokeh Game Studio, Slitterhead was initially unveiled through a cinematic trailer at The Game Awards 2021. Yet, detailed gameplay footage has remained unseen by fans.
Toyama's Legacy in Horror
Keiichiro Toyama is a seasoned figure in the horror genre. He directed, wrote, and designed the original Silent Hill in 1999. He also contributed significantly to the Siren series, which ran from 2003 to 2008 on PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3.
After shifting focus to the action-adventure genre with Sony’s Gravity Rush series, Toyama established Bokeh Game Studio in 2020, embarking on Slitterhead, marking his return to horror.
Geoff Keighley, the host of Summer Game Fest, announced via X (formerly Twitter) that Slitterhead's first gameplay reveal would be part of the event’s lineup.

The Summer Game Fest live stream kicks off at 5 p.m. EST, 2 p.m. PST on June 7th.
Since the announcement, Toyama and his team have interacted with fans through video Q&A sessions, sharing insights into the game's development and its inspirations drawn from Japanese urban legends.
One such legend, the slit-mouthed woman, prominently features in the debut trailer, where she undergoes a startling transformation from a seemingly ordinary human into a grotesque, attacking entity.
Diversifying the Horror Genre
Toyama aims to draw in players who typically shy away from horror games. Despite the game’s eerie visuals, he has hinted at incorporating many genres into Slitterhead.
While specific details remain undisclosed, trailers suggest action elements, implying a mix of intense and quieter moments throughout the game.
Summer Game Fest signals the start of a significant weekend for the gaming industry, with the Xbox Games Showcase and PC Gaming Show on June 9th, Ubisoft Forward on June 10th, and various other events, including Devolver Direct.
The Geoff Keighley-led Summer Game Fest will feature over 55 companies presenting their latest projects, with prominent names such as Blumhouse, Capcom, EA, HoYoverse, Niantic, and Sega.
