The Midnight Suns developer Firaxis Games' track record speaks for itself, even though licensed Marvel games can be hit or miss. Before creating Midnight Suns, Firaxis successfully relaunched the XCOM series and produced new Civilization games that received positive reviews. Although early gameplay previews have been favorable, some fans are concerned about Midnight Suns' card-based combat. On December 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X users will be able to play Midnight Suns for themselves; however, users of earlier platforms, such as the Switch, will have to wait until a later, as-yet-unspecified date.
Need for Speed Unbound, the most recent installment in EA's long-running racing game franchise, will debut on December 2 alongside Midnight Suns. Since 2019's Need for Speed Heat, Need for Speed Unbound is the first new Need for Speed game to have been developed by Criterion Games. It also marks the first new Need for Speed game since 2012's critically acclaimed Need for Speed Most Wanted. On December 2, Need for Speed Unbound will be released exclusively for next-generation consoles, allowing it to fully utilize the extra power offered by the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. The use of an anime-inspired aesthetic in the game is undoubtedly a change of pace, and it will be interesting to see how racing game enthusiasts react to it.
The Callisto Protocol, a brand-new IP and the debut project of Striking Distance Studios, will be the third significant new game to be released on December 2. The Callisto Protocol's development has been overseen by Glen Schofield, the man behind the Dead Space video game series, and serves as a sort of spiritual successor. With players facing various unspeakable horrors capable of brutally killing them, it combines sci-fi elements with traditional survival-horror gameplay. The Callisto Protocol is highly anticipated and has a good chance of being one of the best new horror games of the year.
The Callisto Protocol is a third-person action-adventure game that roots its combat in horror. Like Dead Space, The Callisto Protocol is a survival-horror game with more exciting and cinematic options in combat than a traditional survival-horror game may have. Dead Space’s Kinesis is a valuable resource when ammunition is low, for example. The Callisto Protocol is adding even more mechanical layers of combat to give players a greater fighting chance. That said, how players are meant to master these combat mechanics in The Callisto Protocol may be a challenge in itself.

With the help of the Callisto Protocol's stealth techniques, players can silently eliminate biophages from behind. Jacob Lee of The Callisto Protocol also uses a retractable baton for focused melee combat. It will be intriguing to see how much melee combat influences the player's decision to interact with biophages, for example, whether there are advantages to bashing a biophage rather than shooting it. However, players also have a dodge mechanic for close-range combat.
