Xbox has officially announced that the release of the highly anticipated RPG, Avowed, will now be delayed. The game, which was previously set for release this year, will now be moved forward to February 18, 2025. According to the company, the decision was made to give gamers across the world “breathing room” amid a crowded holiday season replete with major Xbox games release including Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6.
A Bit of Information About Avowed
Avowed, which is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, is set in the fantasy world of Erora, fondly remembered and popular with fans of the Pillars of Eternity series. The developers promised a rich immersive gaming experience with customisable characters, an impressive range of weapons and intricate world-building. It is reminiscent of a previous blockbuster, The Outer Worlds, by the same developer.
Like the Outer Worlds, Avowed has large zones for gamers to explore, and multiple companions to journey with and factions to work for. Side note: aside from the news of Avowed release postponed, the Outer Worlds is also getting a sequel.
The statement on the delay of Avowed was announced in a tweet on X by Xbox’s official handle. It read in part: “So many games are coming! As such, we're moving Avowed to Feb 18, 2025 to give players’ backlogs some breathing room.”
Incoming Holiday Titles
The 2024 holiday season is currently packed with expected blockbuster Xbox games that includes Star Wars Outlaws, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It is understandable why the developers of Avowed, will feel they need to give players the chance to enjoy these games without feeling rushed.
Reactions from Fans
As expected, many gamers who are already looking forward to the game have reacted to the latest development about Avowed being postponed. Here are some comments from fans reacting to the announcement on a gaming room on Reddit:
“Everything gets delayed now. I basically just don’t expect an original release date to be honored at this point.”

“I also don't expect my game to work upon release lmao.”
—Yung_Jack
“In this case the rumor is it's ready to release this year but they think it'd get overshadowed by other games. If that's true, delaying it might be smart, there's definitely been a few games that were released in a good state but struggled against bigger and more popular games.”

As dedicated Avowed fans now wait a bit longer for their expected gaming experience, Xbox equally has a promising lineup for next year. Fans of the gaming company can expect Xbox several Xbox game releases, including South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages, and a new Fable game to drop next year. The company has asked fans to stay tuned for more updates on Avowed and other exciting Xbox releases at Gamescom later this month.
