A woman was taken into the custody of the Police in Tokyo, Japan, after she sent death threats to a highly placed Nintendo executive. According to a version of the incident reported by a reliable source in Tokyo, the threats sent by the woman included things like, "hey, I'm going to kill you," "die, Nintendo switch games!"
The police officers also reported that the woman also placed a koden (a type of funeral offering) in a bag and also a bundle of notes containing death threats in that same bag. She then sent the bag by mail to the corporate headquarters of Nintendo in Kyoto. The police confirmed that the package was sent last year on the 25th of June.
The female suspect who the Police arrested was described as a "female permatemp" who was making severe death threats to an official who works for Nintendo. The police, while releasing a statement about the incident, didn't reveal the identity of the Nintendo executive being threatened by the suspect.
Nintendo Officials Don't Have Any informal Relations with the Suspect
During their investigations, the police officers noted that the Nintendo Switch games executive involved in the case didn't have any informal relations with the suspect. They are still trying to discover how the suspect could target that particular Nintendo official.
Since the local police are claiming no "resentment" between the two parties, how could the suspect have so much hatred for the Nintendo chief?
The official communications department of Nintendo has not made any official statement regarding the new development. According to some media experts, Nintendo is trying to protect the privacy of its officers who were victims of the scandal.
Similar Attacks are Happening in the Game Industry
The attack on one of Nintendo's officials isn't the only one reported in the past. Some individuals have made several other attempts to harm officials of game-developing companies.
Those fans of some gaming brands can be easily pissed off when there are major changes within the game, as in the case of Bungie, which came under attack in July 2022. Like in the past, those who were involved in threatening the developers of the game for the new changes weren't in any way related to them or have had any relations in the past. Some strangers were angry at the developers for making unwanted changes.
According to the Senior Community Manager Dylan Gafner, he said that threats against their lives and their family members are something they often see within the gaming industry. He said that those who used their games sometimes could be angry when there's a new change within the game. Dylan Gafner said that some of the threats they get weren't just on Twitter; some can be sent to personal emails.
"The harassment we've spoken to isn't just rude replies on Twitter or vague comments. There have been real threats towards our people and our studio," Dylan Gafner added.
